7/5/10 - Stakes, Cat Grass, and Harvest

It's HOT, HOT, HOT! Our temps in Northern Virginia are just under 100 degrees and staying this way all week. I'm watering early in the morning and in the evening. The plants still look thirsty.

Yesterday, I went and picked up three-panel tomato stakes to support the plants that were in serious need (the first planter box). It was challenging to get those suckers in place ... they're now doing a good job keeping the branches from snapping from the weight. I also went ahead an installed the stakes in the second box to avoid having the top-heavy problem with the younger plants.

The hot peppers (in the second box) are starting to grow and the radish seeds that I planted with Daris and Alex about a week ago (before my vacation) are sprouting - FUN!

Something is wrong with the Roma tomatoes. I have no clue what's going on. Anyone know?

I took a picture of the mint in the sunflower pot to show my Pops and Pat how the transplant turned out. It's really looking healthy and seems to like the new location!

Houdini (my five year old cat) is happy with his cat-grass. I couldn't resist taking his picture. He was inspecting the grass when I was watering and so I took the opportunity to snap. He's a super cat and loves to talk. Meow-meow.

Also when I was watering, I saw that the pepper was starting to rot so I picked it. The Roma that was harvested fell off the vine when I was inspecting it. I guess it was ready! :-) I'll cut these guys up for my salad tonight. The verdict with the pepper has been established.
