6/12/10 - Morning Watering

The weather this weekend is HOT HOT HOT. I was glad that the neighbor kids were up and about this morning so we could water before it got too hot. It's fun to see how the garden is taller than they are (which they pointed out to me). The basil that we harvested late in the week has come back as if we'd never cut it. We're getting lots of blossoms on the squash and cucs and tomatoes. It's pretty neat. Soon, we'll be able to harvest some veggies and get cooking.

The pepper is getting bigger ... and I'm starting to wonder why the plant itself isn't really growing much. Is all the plant's energy going toward the growth of the pepper? I'm also wondering if the pepper was mis-marked and is actually a green pepper instead of a red one? Time will tell.

  1. If you let the green peper ripen, stay on the plant long enough, it will turn red. Glad you are learning so much. Gardening is such a rewarding experience. Jeff has a nice garden with beans, tomatoes, squash and asparagas(now that is a challenge). It takes 3 years from planting until first harvest, but is comes back every year.

  2. Thanks for the information, Jim! I was JUST wondering again about the pepper! I will keep it on the vine until it turns red. The gang will be very excited to hear the news.

We have some bush bean seeds that we're going to try.

Asparagus take THREE YEARS??? OH MY HEAD! That's crazy. I guess once you get them going, they keep on, though. That's very neat. I'll have to read more about that. If Jeff has any pictures, I'd love to see his garden!

    Thanks for posting!
