8/15/10 - Plans Change ... And It All Works Out

So, plans change. And it really does always work out!

Yesterday, Bogey and I tried to go to the beach and returned after traffic. This morning, we (I) planned to take off between 0630 and 0700. When we got up at 0530, my little dude could barely walk. (Made me really sad and got me pretty stressed out!) We went outside so he could do his "business" and he was so out of sorts that there was no question in my mind that my little guy couldn't deal with a 5 hour car ride (on the lean side of traffic). So, at that early hour of the morning, I texted my friend to call me back. (I knew she'd get in touch soon b/c she's got twin baby girls that need EARLY morning feedings!). She called me soon after and I told her my deal. She's known Bogey since I've gotten him so she totally got where I was coming from. My initial plan was to drive to the beach without Bogey to drop off all the stuff that I purchased for our adventure. (I'd get a neighbor to let him out.) I got underway and before I reached the highway, she called me back and told me not to come at all. These modern things called grocery stores brought things into perspective. I think I just really wanted to see the house, see my friends, and follow through with my part of our plan. I'm thankful and appreciative for my friends' foresight ... 12 plus hours on the road - in traffic - really isn't fun or safe. So, no extra beach holiday for me or my pooch. It's okay. I do think that it all works out and I look forward to sharing that when I find out! :-)

The kids were happy to see me and we went to check things out in the garden this evening after the day of rain we've had. Tomatoes in the second container are really starting to fill out. Also, we saw some bugs on the eggplant leaves. ICK!

Regarding the cucumbers from yesterday. The larger cucumber ended up being bitter because we left it on the vine too long. But, their mom mixed it with the other cucumber, some onion, tomato, and pomegranate vinaigrette that you couldn't tell that it was bitter. She said that the dish was actually perfect! :-)

Soon, we're going to have TONS of tomatoes!
